A bond is put on the high-climbing mind

 A bond is put on the high-climbing mind,

A seal on the too large wide-open heart;

Death stays the journeying discoverer, Life.

Thus is the throne of the Inconscient safe

While the tardy coilings of the aeons pass

And the Animal browses in the sacred fence

And the gold Hawk can cross the skies no more.

A mind that is too eager or impatient to advance and progress higher is chained and tied down. A heart that attempts to open too deeply and spontaneously is prevented by a  mark or a seal. Life that is on a tour of discovering new possibilities, is halted by Death. Therefore the power and authority of the Inconscient continues to rule subconsciously. We often feel trapped by those 'dual tables and karmic norms' set by the Laws of Nature. The phrase 'tardy coilings of the aeons' indicates extremely slow passing of manvantara or a long period of evolutionary activity in a cylic or spiral manner. The vast stretches of evolutionary movement often frustrates a soul that is eager to evolve too quickly. In that cycle, the animal, symbolic of the physical body roams in a fenced enclosure as if waiting to be sacrificed; while the golden Hawk or the soul cannot soar high in skies of higher consciousness restricted by duality and Karma and the 'throne of the Inconscient'.

Evolutionary Coiling in Theosophy

Theosophy teaches (see involution-evolution diagram here from 'The Secret Docrine' corresponding to the lines 'tardy coilings of the aeons' of Sri Aurobindo.) : 'There are seven rounds in every manvantara; this one is the Fourth, and we are in the Fifth Root-Race, at present. Each Root-Race has seven sub-races. Each sub-race has, in its turn, seven ramifications, which may be called Branch or “Family” races.'

Regarding our present point of evolution, to quote from 'The Secret Doctrine':

“Occult philosophy teaches that even now, under our very eyes, the new Race and Races are preparing to be formed, and that it is in America that the transformations will take place, and has already silently commenced. . . . the Americans . . . are, in short, the germs of the Sixth subrace, and in some few hundred years more, will become most decidedly the pioneers of that race which must succeed to the present European or fifth sub-race, in all its new characteristics. After this, in about 25,000 years, they will launch into preparations for the seventh sub-race; . . . The Fifth will overlap the Sixth Race for many hundreds of millenniums, . . . This process of preparation for the Sixth great Race must last throughout the whole sixth and seventh sub-races . . . another and new dwelling, the sixth continent, will have appeared above the new waters on the face of the globe, so as to receive the new stranger. To it also will emigrate and settle all those who shall be fortunate enough to escape the general disaster. . . . as nature no more proceeds by sudden jumps and starts, . . . the final cataclysm will be preceded by many smaller submersions and destructions both by wave and volcanic fires. . . . there will be no more Americans when the Sixth Race commences; no more, in fact, than Europeans; for they will have now become a new race, and many new nations. . . . Mankind will not grow again into giant bodies as in the case of the Lemurians and the Atlanteans; because while the evolution of the Fourth race led the latter down to the very bottom of materiality in its physical development, the present Race is on its ascending arc; and the Sixth will be rapidly growing out of its bonds of matter, and even of flesh."

“Thus it is the mankind of the New world – one by far the senior of our Old one, a fact men had also forgotten . . . whose mission and Karma it is, to sow the seeds for a forthcoming, grander, and far more glorious Race than any of those we know of at present. . . . On the law of parallel history and races, the majority of the future mankind will be composed of glorious Adepts. Humanity is the child of cyclic Destiny, and not one of its Units can escape its unconscious mission, or get rid of the burden of its co-operative work with nature. Thus will mankind, race after race, perform its appointed cycle-pilgrimage. Climates will, and have already begun, to change, each tropical year after the other dropping one sub-race, but only to beget another higher race on the ascending cycle; while a series of other less favoured groups – the failures of nature – will, like some individual men, vanish from the human family without even leaving a trace behind.” (The Secret Doctrine Vol. 2, p. 444-446)

Albert Einstein on Intuition

  Albert Einstein and Rabindranath Tagore In Berlin , Germany - Some selected quotes and thoughts of Albert Einstein on intuition - The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift. We will not solve the problems of the world from the same level of thinking we were at when we created them. More than anything else, this new century demands new thinking: We must change our materially based analyses of the world around us to include broader, more multidimensional perspectives.  I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.  The intellect has little to do on the road to discovery. There comes a leap in consciousness, call it Intuition or what you will, the solu

More on Synthesis

 Again we shall contemplate on a few more words on the wisdom of synthesis (navigating the "narrow razor-edged Path" between duality or the "noble middle path" of Buddha) from our beloved DK. However I wish to emphasize that Djwal Khul and Alice Bailey demonstrated practical (not just theoretically) synthesis. For instance Alice Bailey being born in the west was open enough to acknowledge and bring forth teachings from a far wiser eastern/oriental master Djwal Khul. She could both surrender herself (a difficult quality to develop for the western concrete mind with its overemphasis on freedom) and at the same time was careful enough to guard herself against foolish blind devotion (a vice of oriental masses). Another disciple who demonstrated practical synthesis was Blavatsky (synthesis of religions). She established Theosophical society headquarters in the west and soon shifted it to the east although she worked and died for the cause of theosophy in the west. One mo

What is a seed-thought ?

 One of my friends questioned me: What is a seed-thought ? This post attempts to throw some light with example, on the concept of a seed-thought. Here is how we define it: "A seed-thought is simply a thought-form or a phrase or symbolic words which conceal a fundamental truth and acts as a seed that sprouts in a contemplative meditation (meditation with a seed) revealing that truth." A Seed-thought being a (thought-)form, we need to look also the broader concept of "form as a symbol", of which a seed-thought is just an example. Earlier we tabulated so many example of trinities. "Purpose - Idea - Form" is one such trinity of symbol. What this means is that every symbol has three interpretations - as a from it is an expression of some underlying idea. This idea has behind it, in its turn, a deeper underlying purpose. These three interpretations of a symbol can be summarized as: 1. Exoteric interpretation:  Based on its objective utility and upon the nature o
